On February 22, 2025, over 5,000 Girl Guides and Brownies gathered at the Singapore Expo to celebrate World Thinking Day—a time of reflection, appreciation, and gratitude for the movement that has shaped and inspired generations of young women.
This year’s celebration was unlike any other. For the first time ever, the event was fully youth-led. Six of our 2023 President’s Guide Awardees took on the challenge as Young Adults, leading the charge in planning and executing the celebration. From coordinating the formal ceremony to welcoming international participants, these dedicated young leaders spent months meticulously crafting an unforgettable experience.
The theme for World Thinking Day 2025, “Our Story,” resonated deeply with the team. They were determined to bring this theme to life through meaningful storytelling and interactive activities. One of the most impactful initiatives was the launch of “Humans of GGS”, an online video series showcasing the diverse voices within our movement. These heartfelt clips provided a glimpse into the personal journeys of our members—their reasons for joining Guiding, the lessons they’ve learned, and the inspirations that drive them to give back.
Taking the theme even further, our Guides embarked on a bold creative endeavour—constructing a giant fabric mural, a tapestry of stories woven together, each square representing a defining moment in our movement’s history. The project was led by Javelle, one of the Young Adults, who reflected on the challenges of selecting materials, finding suitable adhesives, and piecing the mural together. Despite the obstacles, witnessing their vision come to life was a deeply fulfilling experience.
On World Thinking Day itself, this incredible mural was officially inaugurated into the Singapore Book of Records as the largest banner covered in fabric pieces with handwritten notes—a testament to the collective spirit, creativity, and resilience of our Guiding community.
As we look back on this historic and youth-empowered World Thinking Day, we are reminded of the power of our stories and the limitless possibilities ahead. Together, we continue to celebrate our past, shape our present, and inspire the future of Guiding.
