Young Adults (YA) Branch is made up of young women aged 17-25. As the senior branch of GGS, the YA Branch offers flexibility, self-direction and choice to its members.

The YA Programme provides many unique opportunities to gain valuable, transferable life and leadership skills, build a strong network of friendships, and enhance your personal professional development. You will also be able to participate in some life-changing adventures that will take you to new places, from working on community projects in remote villages to representing GGS at international Guiding events.

The Branch is run by YAs for YAs through a Young Adult Branch Council (YABC), which meets its members ‘needs and GGS’ policies.

YA Membership

You are invited to join YAs if you are 17-25 and want to:

Explore WAGGGS Fundamental Principles as expressed in Promise and Law
Make the GGS YA Promise
Join a chapter
Complete the YA introductory Course and become enrolled
Explore all aspects of leadership, including self-government and decision making
Participate in WAGGGS initiatives as GGS decides and facilitates
Self direct your personal growth through the Programme Focus Areas
Work in small groups to achieve your own self development goals and help other YAs to achieve theirs
Work in small groups for certain projects/ ad hoc activities

Maintenance of membership
To maintain your membership, you need to:

Annually pay capitation fee ($8.00 as at 2023)
Attend the Yearly Meeting of the YA Branch or be able to provide medical, examination or compassionate reasons not to attend
Attend at least 3 out of 6 gatherings of the YA Branch held throughout the year
Give at least 25 hours per annum, including preparation and execution, to GGS HQ organized activities such as Thinking Day, Annual General Meeting, Guiders’ Conference, GGS Trainings etc.

The new YA Developmental Programme was launched on 1^st October 2011. This is still a work in progress and will be reviewed based on feedback on the implementation. The Handbook to accompany the new Programme is available for all YAs in the website to download.

Chapters

The chapter manages itself, deciding the yearly calendar of activities and how often the members meet. Chapters may, and are encouraged to, invite members of other chapters to participate in activities.

The chapter members decide how the Developmental Programme will be followed. The chapter will also ensure that the Promise to serve in the wider community is represented in the chapter.
