An International Movement

As a Member Organisation of WAGGGS, GGS is part of an International Movement focused on ensuring that "All girls are valued and take action to change the world". To achieve this, GGS follows United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) aimed at tackling the huge challenges that our world is facing today including poverty, health, climate change, and various forms of inequality.

Since 2020, GGS has been focusing on the following 3 SDGs:

'Every Girl Matters'

Creating a safe environment for all our members

'Equality For All'

Ensuring that there are equal opportunities for all our members

'Leave No Trace'

Encouraging accountability in all our members

Combining WAGGGS approaches with SDGs, GGS girl-centric programmes empower girls to step forward to make a difference to the world in ways that they can, as they develop to their fullest potential as responsible citizens of the world.

What is World Thinking Day?

Since 1926, World Thinking Day is a day of international friendship, where 10 million Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in 150 countries come together to advocate for what they believe in and to fundraise for the Guiding Movement.

Each year, World Thinking Day takes on a different theme that Girl Guides around the world can learn about and take actions on. The theme for World Thinking Day 2021 is Peacebuilding.

In line with GGS efforts towards SDG 13: Climate Action, GGS is embarking on Environmental Peacebuilding this year through the first ever Plogathon in Singapore!

What is a Plogathon?

If marathon is a long-distance running race, then plogathon is a long-distance plogging race!

Plogging is a combination of two words: jogging and the Swedish phrase "plocka upp", which means pick up. Started in Sweden in 2016, it is basically an eco-friendly exercise where one picks up litter while working out.

Simply go for a walk or a jog with tongs, gloves and trash bags to keep the litter you've picked up and you're set!

Why Plog

Singapore's waste management system is very effective, but a lot of trash still don’t end up in bins.
Carried by winds and birds, a lot of carelessly-disposed trash eventually end up in our oceans...
By 2050, there will be more plastic in the oceans than fish

By plogging, we take action to help reduce waste in our oceans and save precious marine life!

Come plog with GGS today. With your support, we will create a better, greener world!
